Glenbogle Estate: Hector

Hector and Molly are Archie's parents. Hector was born on the estate, and being the eldest brother inherited the right to the title 'Laird'. This would be bestowed upon him on the death of his father, or in the unlikely event that his father relinquished the title.

Hector grew up in the majestic environment of Western Scotland. His life was as one of the 'landed gentry', privelidged, bountiful and protected. He tells of his father being harsh, and of the house rules for children as 'being seen and not heard'. He and his brother were raised mostly in the care of a series of nannies. In the evenings they would be taken downstairs in their best clothes and their father would have them stand to attention as he spoke briefly to them about their day. At the age of just six, Hector was sent away to boarding school. Althought he came home on holidays and at every chance he got, he still spent the majority of the next twelve years away from his beloved Glenbogle estate homeland. In his early twenties he was commissioned into the army, and served overseas. On his return he met and married the young and beautiful Molly, and together they embarked upon their married life in Hector's ancestral home, his castle.
